The Blue Map application is tailored to be a comprehensive resource for environmental data catering to residents of and frequent visitors to China. Excitingly, it is now available in English for the first time. One of its primary objectives is to furnish the public with authoritative information on air and water quality as well as industrial emissions. Visualizing this crucial data through dynamic maps aids users in making informed daily decisions. Additionally, the app acts as a platform for public engagement, enabling citizens to report pollution incidents and offenders, while also equipping consumers with information required to embrace eco-friendly consumption habits.

The app's impressive features include:

		Authoritative and comprehensive environmental data and dynamic maps:

			<li>Air quality & forecasts</li>
			<li>Data on six air quality indicators sourced from over 2000 air quality monitoring stations in China and over 5000 additional monitoring stations worldwide. This includes air quality rankings, hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly statistics concerning air pollution and smog monitoring. Users can benefit from dynamic air quality data visualization maps illustrating past three-day air quality trends for China alongside global monitoring data. The app also provides alerts for heavy smog occurrences in China.</li>
			<li>Water quality</li>
			<li>Data sourced from more than 8000 surface water quality monitoring stations across China</li>
			<li>Pollution source emissions</li>
			<li>Real-time emissions data covering over 9000 significant air emissions and wastewater pollution sources, including detailed daily average value analysis</li>
			<li>Weather & forecasts</li>
			<li>Worldwide real-time weather data and forecasts from meteorological authorities. Detailed weather forecasts are accessible down to the district and county level within China</li>

		Interactive channels enhancing environmental quality and promoting green consumption practices:

			<li>“Micro-reporting” mechanism to expose offenders: Users can report non-compliant factory emissions via Weibo or WeChat moments, tagging the official Weibo accounts of local environmental protection authorities to raise awareness.</li>
			<li>“Foul & filthy” rivers module: Direct reporting of polluted urban waters to official platforms through the Blue Map app</li>
			<li>“Green choice” consumer action platform: Provides environmental performance rankings for popular brands and products. Users can express preferences towards favored or underperforming brands, then share these insights with friends on WeChat and Weibo to encourage sustainable consumption practices.</li>
			<li>Interactive sharing wall: A wall designed for users to post images related to blue sky days, pollution, smog, or other pertinent issues aimed at promoting environmental awareness and exposing pollution instances.</li>

IPE and the Blue Map have garnered numerous accolades in China for their contributions towards environmental preservation and innovation. Additionally, IPE founding director Ma Jun was recognized as China's “Green Person of the Year” and featured in TIME Magazine’s list of the World’s 100 Most Influential People in 2006. He has also been honored with prestigious awards such as the Magsaysay Award in 2009, the Goldman Prize in 2012 for his environmental conservation efforts in China, and the Skoll Foundation Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2015 for his innovative approach in addressing China’s pollution challenges.
